The only reason someone like Gura can do this in HoloEN is because the rest of the branch can pick up the slack and tardwrangle the community in her stead.
Luxiem farmed up their superchats in the first 6 months and then immediately pivoted to streaming once a week for the next 2 years. Their fans then spent all those dead days spamming social media and being obnoxious towards the people in Niji who actually stream. It was a complete disaster. They just let their toxic fans run rampant harassing the girls and creating fake drama that just exhausted any casual fans.
Now regarding "yabs" I don't think that's really the issue. It's how they responded to yabs that put off fans. Any yab can be recovered from if you just show sincerity and apologize properly. Look at Phase Connect's endless boyfriend yabs not affecting their fanbase at all.

Meanwhile fans of the males got increasingly defensive and bitter towards the girls for always streaming consistently and giving more to their fans than the males do. The girls were even the ones "taking responsibility" for the males' own fuckups because they can't be bothered to address their own fans. The brewing fanbase civil war spawned from this singular event eventually exploded into the mass exodus from Pomu/Selen's departure.
