Sharks are prehistoric creatures, just like dinosaurs. In fact the earliest fossil record of the still-extant family of sleeper sharks dates back 100 million years. It may not be over 9000, but a current member of the family, the Greenland shark, has an impressive lifespan of 250-500 years, making it a competitor for the longest living animals.
