First time hanging with Pippa since the Twitchcon ended. Took a break because of my own hangups, but I was too ready for bookclub to miss it.
Bookclub itself was insightful, but a little rushed. Had the book in front of me as she was going through it and I was practically flying through the pages Jesas. I already read it and memorized it well enough, but dang. It's nice she had a script, very nice, but it seems she didn't have enough time to flesh it out a little more.
A lot her points were valid, like how awkward certain plot elements were introduced and cheap ways to make things more difficult for the cast. Though, the way Pippa prefers to handle information makes her heavily biased against this book. She wants, nay needs, as much information given to her as possible about any given thing. Explain, explain, explain. Little passion for the mysterious, exploring the unknown, or being in the moment it seems. And I feel Petersen writes it that way because that's how he was a boy growing up playing in the woods. It's sold as a general audience book, but this really feels specifically for boys. It just doesn't have that stereotypical edge that's typically stapled onto western boy's media. Other than mouse brutality, that is. Some guys just like being thrust into a new world, figure it out, and be in awe as they go. It's an experience.
Everyone has their bias, and I'm not trashing all her opinions, but I felt she went a little hard on it. Especially on Celanawe because it seems like she sped read through his dialogue and thus got this skewed take on him. Still, what I like about these streams is seeing her particular insights. They should make me seethe, and sometimes they absolutely do, but yet I am still drawn to her. The way we just split up and cross paths in our thinking constantly is interesting. She did give me greater appreciation for Fall 1152, which I thought was okay especially compared to Winter. Too bad Mouse Guard as a whole seemed to stress her out so much that we may not be seeing another Book Club for a while.
Usually I don't stick around for karaoke but I made an exception tonight. It was fun, though I had to keep in the background as I tended to irl stuff. I'm no music guy, but there's definitely certain songs that emphasize your current strengths as a singer. Could be worth looking into further. Overall, it was a fun and casual atmosphere.
Tldr; Alright Bookclub. Love the back & forth we get to have. Mixed feelings toward the dominating opinions. Love poking into your head. Had a good time with karaoke. And despite what I said here and how I've been feeling lately, it was nice to be with you and the other Capipis tonight, Pips. Really nice. Keep it up. I'll be around waiting to see how you progress from here with your streaming.
