It's hard to say for certain but graphs like this one have been speculated to be the result of viewers tabbing in and out of streams. Personally, I think the big algo change that happened in Dec 2020 is what introduced this change.

Only the active window counts. The graph of a split POV is basically mirrored, picrel is probably my favorite example of it.
