Flour + water are very doughy. Its pretty much flatbread. Not too much flavor, but I'm a fan of plain white bread so I'm not complaining.
Flour + water + egg are pretty tasty. They're much more pancakey and things feel more combined if that makes sense. If you only had these three ingredients you could definitely make something everyone could call pancakes. The primary taste is egg though, if that matters.
Flour + water + egg + baking soda are nice and fluffy. The egg taste from before is more subdued. They're pretty much just normal pancakes though without the extra sugar and flavor from the milk and salt.
In conclusion, Cecile was probably lazy but there's also a good chance she ran out of eggs to make pancakes with. All of them taste good when you put maple syrup on them anyway so maybe that's what she didn't want to go out and buy a whole bottle of.
