The pervasiveness of the English language in the Philippines has killed any chance for local-based culture to sufficiently develop because English is assumed to be "the better language". To be honest, considering the present state of Pilipino, it is. But given time (and forcing the population to actually use it by deemphasizing English), Pilipino will be forcibly upgraded to meet the demands of the current time. There will be growing pains at first because English is just so goddamn good when it comes to making money from abroad, but our own culture will be left hollowed out at the end if we keep depending on it like a drug. Just like how the Soviet Union's nascent computer industry was choked out because it tried to imitate American cybernetics instead of developing on its own.
