Hi Kiara, I wanted to share a great tradition with you its called Epiphany Day, its on January 6th and it celebrates the day the three wise men visited Baby Jesus and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Along with warning the Holy Family that the evil king herod had declared an order of infanticide so they should not return home and instead take refuge elsewhere, which they did in Egypt until herod had died.
>epiphany dayThe celebration is on the official church calendar but the celebration originated from either France or Spain its debated. Its unironically like a second Christmas to those who celebrate it and it marks the end of Christmastide. (Christmas lasts from the 25th of December to the 6th of January in case you didnt know, we're still in Christmas right now so dont stop the festivities just yet). Its celebrated with a get together, similar to thanksgiving, where food and family get together and it leads up to the finale dessert of the King's Cake. As far as I know only the French Empire and the Spanish Empire have a kings cake. Take a look. This one is the French classic known as "Galette des Rois"
>La galette des rois à la frangipanehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1sY752loToThis one is from the French Empire colony Louisiana known as "King Cake"
>King Cake is Mardi Gras' Most Famous Dessert | Legendary Eatshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDB_nBwm_GkThis is from Spain known as "Roscón de Reyes"
>ROSCÓN DE REYES CON ESBIETAhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7n8GSa8pv4And this one is from Spanish Empire colony Mexico, known as "Rosca de Reyes"
>Rosca de Reyes a la Leña - La Herencia de las Viudahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQrErLjjM1gThe story behind these cakes is to celebrate and retell the story of the day of Epiphany. Inside each of those cakes is hidden a little figure to represent how Baby Jesus was hid from the evil king herod who ordered infanticide. As you cut and eat those cakes someone will eventually cut into or bite into the little figure, discovering it. Depending on which country you're in different actions occur to the lucky or unlucky individual who discovered the figure. They become "king for a day" "they get bad luck or good luck" "they have to cook for everyone on candlemass day" and other stuff.
>eatingI hope you try some of these if you can find a local French or Spanish bakery near you. Epiphany day is a day centered around children and family, so feel free to use this as an excuse to get together with your family again. And if you can't find a bakery near you, those videos come with recipes and I know you can bake. Maybe you might try baking some of them? These traditions are all of our traditions collectively even if we may not be the race that originated it, its our religion that ties us, so these traditions are just as much yours as they are any Frenchman or Spaniard. So enjoy Kiara, you're one of us now, these traditions are now a part of your legacy as well.
