Say a Mariner hag whose spent the last few years at a pleasant late thirties, unable to put the bottle down long enough to get a man or buy that boat she's always talking about suddenly left with a mystery man? She always did mention saving up for a boat didn't she? Is it too strange to think that someone like her might throw caution to the wind out of desperation for companionship?
In fact, didn't she mention a man who seemed always willing to pay for another meal and walk her home after another drink? She never was too close with everyone when there was nothing to brag about and as the years drew on there was certainly less and less on her end.
I'd think a family with someone like that might not ask too many questions if a relative skipped town on a honeymoon with a mystery man. I think they'd be quite happy to leave an old hag like that to her happy end with the man of her dreams.
