>>79974444SoP is one of the best JRPGs I've played in years and it's kinda crazy to me that Square put out something with this level of gameplay polish while having almost 0 marketing for it outside of a couple of trailers that became unintentional memes. The story is also like, wierdly good. I say wierdly because it spends the first 90% barely having a plot and being an almost intentionally halfassed retelling of the original FF1.
But then in the last 10% it dumps an entire game's worth of plot on you that recontextualizes the entire game. Which sounds like a terrible idea, and purely as an idea it IS terrible, the game somehow makes it work. I think a lot of it is because it gets you to actually give a shit about the characters so you care what happens to them by the end, I felt genuinely bad when
Astos died.
It is a better roadtrip story than XV, the game explicitly written to have a roadtrip story.
