However I'm going to try and explain why I think people are upset about it if you don't take into account muh media literacy and muh racism.
In fiction, particularly anime, demons are often just a different race of people with good and bad members, they're no different than elves or aliens or whatever and I think a lot of people are misunderstanding that within the context of the Frieren setting, these demons are classically pure evil monsters and nothing more.
Ironically a lot of the media literacy types can't comprehend that different settings have different rules and others are just trained to view them as any other race or species in a fantasy setting because that's how a lot of modern settings handle it, D&D being a big one lately.
