As someone who started watching vtubers in early 2017 it's incredible how much the landscape changed over the years. I guess vtuber 'history' could be divided between the early 2016-2019 era and the 2019-today era, the first one marked by vtubers who predominantly did heavily edited short videos, while the latter one is heavily dominated by streaming.
It's incredible how much the community exploded in popularity after holomyth debutted and the normies realized this exists. But that does mean that the normies totally miss out on everything that happened before that, so names like Nekomiya Hinata mean nothing to them.
