it was part of the general motion of shortening combo strings and block strings, because the game aimed to draw in crowd that normally got heavily filtered by FGs or didn't stick around much after getting in
a lot of people get filtered due to 'passive' parts of gameplay, aka when they're stuck in block, getting comboed or getting mixed out of their shoes - Strive basically shortened those situations and made them much more rare, so there's a bigger general focus on positional play and give/take setups
