>>66996621>What's driving the success of vtubers?A simple fact. Entertaining and funny women actually exist, but we never got to see or hear them since all women who participate in the entertainment industry in the West are leftist nepotism babies from this or that incestuous college/social circle. Be it female writers or the utter sadness that is the female standup comedian, the levels of quality are abysmal. They are anti-talents. Vtubing gave a chance to actually entertaining women from all walks of life, actual nobodies, to showcase what they can do and many of them are genuinely funny, talented and charismatic. This is the first time in the history of the West that women are doing something entertaining, interesting and worthwhile. This is in stark contrast to Japan, where the female portion of the aristocracy essentially created Japanese literature during their idle days of the Heinan era, and much later female mangaka were not only present but a major part of the anime/manga industry and in many respects the driving part behind significant chunks of it. We NEVER had anything like that in the West. NEVER. This is the first female centric and female created culture and media ecosystem in the West, and it has nothing to do with the usual feminist claptrap or gurl power bullshit or however you want to phrase it, because many if not most of these girls are to a degree weebs and our female counterpart. Meaning, there is actual synergy between us the audience and them the creators. Vtubing is a two way communication network, a real community can and often does exist between the chuuba and her fans. She gives us herself, emphasized, and we shower her with attention, adulation and worship. Also money.
>Is it the rise of lonely men?Not really or exactly. Refer to the above. Many of us (like me) are old weebs who enjoy CGDCT and the two-way interactions between us and them are pleasing and invigorating, but it doesn't mean we're lonely. The better way to put it is that the girls are interesting and we as men are drawn to that. Interesting girls are not a thing in the West per se, one needs a femcel, a fujoshi and a female weeb to connect with. Those are interesting girls, and they're usually just as autistic and withdrawn as us - at the very least in the "I checked out of society for all practical purposes, don't care about it, don't participate, I'm only interested in my weird hobbies and the world is irrelevant but I still work" kind of way.
Also, the fact we both belong to an anime subculture is very important and integral. Western pop culture is ugly and what remains is ugly, obese, grotesque, and criminal. The rise of vtubing is just one facet of the overall abandonment of Western media. I did it way back in 2006.
