It's when they view their relationship as a roadblock to the goals they THINK they should be working towards is when they would really analyze how close they are. Again, stripping things like privileges wouldn't affect Reine too harshly, since she has the income to provide for herself at this point and would likely welcome not feeling like she owes her family anything anymore. What you could do is spin it so it's not her name and such they would be stripping away, but her nephew's. Reine would more than likely want to make sure his future is not stained because of her own actions, and you can also play a bit of mystery with this idea in that she isn't allowed to tell him about the ultimatum. If you really want to pile on the finality of the situation, make them put it in writing and have her sign it.
