The root-word of Aster is the greek word ástron, meaning "star".
The greeks were known for naming objects in the night sky, and when the telescope was invented in the 17th century, the tradition of naming objects in the sky Greek names continued. Thus "Astronomers" (those who catalog the stars) were born. Through their telescopes, they witnessed numerous starlike objects (aster-oids). Eventually men were sent up into space, so-called "astro-nauts" (sailors of the stars). The tradition of using greek roots and greek names continues.
Thus Aster, is greek. Which might explain his homosexual tendencies.
