>>786929376 years ago, Brigitte was released. She was a gamechanger in the fact that she worked incredibly well in teams with more tanks/supports than in the standard 2-2-2 teams as she had incredibly good group healing. This gave birth to a new comp, GOATS, a 3-tank-3-support team first used competitively by its namesake. The base comp had Reinhardt, Zarya,
D.Va, Lucio, Brigitte and Zenyatta, operating similarly to old deathball comps, crashing mercilessly into whatever enemies stood in its way and being essentially unkillable. For a few months, the only thing you could see in competitive matches were GOATS and GOATS variants, with the occasional 4-1-2 (bless Chengdu), making matches go on for quite long and getting complaints aplenty from viewers due to it seeming boring. Instead of doing literally anything else to fix this meta, Blizzard, in their infinite wisdom, created Role Lock, forcing 2-2-2 team comps in every match. This feature was kept in OW2 as well, just with 1 less tank now.
