This situation feels a lot like the Easy Mode beggars timeloop we go through every time a new Souls game comes out.
It's pretty hilarious how fitting the analogy is. They want Souls games to adapt to a global trend because they think it would be inclusive towards more players and therefore benefit the profitability of the product too - on top of owning the elitists gamers, can't forget that -, but they fail to realize how the absence of choice in this case is a feature and a design choice and part of what defines the game in the first place. And just like this homobeggar shit, it's something that will explode on twitter, maybe get traction on reddit, but is ostracized by the core fans who understand why the game is fun and successful the way it is.
I'd actually suggest giving a watch to the video I took these screenshots from because you can almost draw a parallel between easy mode beggars and homobeggars from every single point discussed there.
