Hololive timed everything perfectly to get the biggest influx of viewership possible along with new streamers.
Then just as it started to settle down released the HoloEN which combined with covid lock downs pretty much put a stranglehold on it all.
Hololive just really took advantage of a marketing move.

Even when Gen 4 debuted the numbers were only slightly higher in subs (Towa was actually lower than Emma August) but Hololive had way higher growth after due to the mass number of new EOP fans.
