I listened to the original ver of GODS by NewJeans after hearing the ALURE cover in the jig jukebox yesterday
the cover is way better, hail phase
all woman chorus harmony behind them when they're repeating "god" is much better than the male chorus behind the female singers in the original, and those bits seemed to be mixed to have that echoey vocal wash over the listener as the primary thing instead of just being a parallel to the dubstep
the main synth is really emulating a pipe organ texture, which leans into the worshiplike quality in a way the original doesn't capitalize on
all their voices are distinguishable from each other in character (Lumi sexo breathy uoh) and they are all better at the English delivery
all the solo vocals are so crispy I want to eat them, Ember first line ending in "opened" wow
seeing the solo lines in the beginning as revealing one singer at a time, the first verse reveals the four with relatively more mature voices, maybe even in descending age order - and then the chorus is brought in by revealing Rie being particularly childish sounding, which is actually kino when juxtaposed against what she's singing and the huuuuge sound of that synth, lil girl big power
Uruka gets to hit That Part of her vocal range in her bit on the bridge at "raise this / heart"; also I think they did a slightly more interesting chord motion for Rie over the end of the bridge at "heart un- / break-" than the original does
