So nothing wrong with your idea. I'll second the comment that grabbing all the dirt of a country is a very very small fraction of the planet's mass (the crust doesn't go all that far down compared to the bulk of the planet).
Kinda neat that there would be a gaping hole where that used to be. Just keep in mind that with the canonicity rules, if another anon would like to write about a Vitubia without a /uuu/-shaped crater, they can.
