If they catered primarily to extremely parasocial fans to the detriment of any kind of secondary audiences the fanbase would probably suck a lot more. Look at poor Izuru, a lot of his fans are menhera teenage girls and he clearly hated it when it got to its worst points. I'm not suprised he stunted his numbers to filter people for his own peace of mind. If I were him I probably would have done the same thing.
