Having a friend that's a dude almost always elevates my reading experience in romance fics, since I could never get into anime where the guy has a harem full of women and other men just don't seem to exist in his life. I've got no problem with trashy harems, but it starts to get weird when the MC is the only penis in the universe. I guess that's translated over to my taste in fanfics.
