They used being apart of the main group as exposure for their own individual careers and would frequently collab with each other to boost each others careers
They would also allow people who they were friends with to use group to promote themselves (because of this there are literally 1000+ unofficial wu-tang members)
The entire idea was genius because it allowed them to circumvent all the pitfalls that groups normally fall into
Vshojo reminds me a lot of that because while the group is used to promote all of their members, none of them seemed tied down and can do basically whatever they want
As well as adding on new members who they're already on good terms with
