Otsonny!! At long last, the time has come to ascend the pizza tower. Sonny hasn't played a proper 2D platformer in a hot minute, huh? In that sense, it was a nice change of pace. Drawn in by the art direction, wario land-esque gameplay and somewhat famous development history, he was going in blind otherwise and it was fun to watch him figure it out. The tutorial alone instantly throws quite a bit at you; as he learned all the different mechanics peppino has he pretty quickly realized that the gameplay was more complex than he expected, but while he seemed a tiny bit overwhelmed he also was eager to start figuring out how the different abilities worked together. Breakdance is the best move in his arsenal, obviously. Finished up the tutorial and pretty much just hopped straight into his quest to stop pizzaface, this game doesn't exactly have a lot of explicit storytelling or potential VA for me to comment on but in general I quite enjoyed watching sonny play; his reactions to various features of the game like the goofy spritework, super taunts and figuring out you can parry were very cute. He did mention not being great at those sonic-type games where you have to stay on the move and anticipate what's coming next, which actually surprised me a little since he likes ultrakill and the like... but once he got into it a bit more he started having more fun mowing down enemies and chaining combos— he seems pretty impressed by the movement and flow of combat even if it's a little difficult to get the hang of. Pizza Tower has pretty good level variety and a banger OST to keep you engaged even when sonny goes a little quiet to concentrate, I love the different themed powerups like sausage horses and turning into a ghost... but what's real good is pizza time, the stressful segments where you have to make a mad dash back to the beginning of levels to complete them. Simultaneously painful and fun to watch, depending on the timer they don't leave much room for error... the level where he was being chased by pizzaface and overshot the door by like a few inches, man. He made it through two whole floors today! I don't think he was expecting the difficulty curve of the first boss, but pepperman gave him a run for his money with moves that give little time to react and at times a barrage of attacks on-screen that are difficult to keep up with. I wasn't counting the deaths, there were quite a few though... but always so satisfying to see him succeed at last. Glad we could finally witness that damn chicken on floor two, but the boss, the vigilante, was a similar case to pepperman. I'd say this fight was more fun than stressful though even if it still took him a number of tries, giving our portly little chef a revolver and the sunset in phase two are some pretty neat gimmicks, and I love the BGM here as well. He decided to end once he reached floor 3, meaning we have three more to complete. I'm happy he's enjoying the game! I was looking forward watching him play for a long time so it's nice that it seems to be living up to his expectations. Definitely stressful at times (though not enough to legitimately piss him off yet), but there's a lot to do and collect, and I could see him putting some substantial time into the game in the future to complete it all. Regardless, I look forward to the next installment!
He did hop on zomboid with millie and enna for a bit right after stream, and uh... wew, what a mess. He tried to help them out at west point, he really did KEK. It was pretty hilarious watching millie dying of laughter while they got killed and everything was burning from the molotovs. I know alban would be absolutely thrilled if he came back from otakuthon to find the city reduced to cinders, so hopefully the fire will have mercy. I'm honestly just surprised it can survive/spread that well in the snow. Thanks for a fun stream sonny, whether I see you @ zomboid on Tuesday or before then, I'll be patient. Sleep well and I'll see you later! o7
