In practice, the public grasps the idea of a deepfake very easily. It's also easy to debunk, all it requires is the person (or one of their followers) saying "It's fake" and that's the end of it. Above all, there's the very human inclination to mock anyone who falls for easily debunkable fake news. It shows the person who was deceived to be a moron, and nobody wants to be in that position. This is why I'm so glad the corporate gatekeeping efforts on AI have failed, so the public can cut their teeth on the concept before an actually dangerous AI fake can deceive them on something important.
