Most situations the rocket launcher is better because it one shots everything that isn't a hover bike, it pierces enemies, and if it collides with a bullet it nullifies the bullet. That part in the stage 2 airport right before the plane with the jetpack guys is much easier with the rocket launcher. The best place the machine gun shines is stage 3 on the elevator up and the jetpack guys harass you on your way up.
The girls grenades does have its benefits, it only takes one grenade to take out a bike since it ticks the bike twice and since it lasts longer than a single explosion. It's probably easier to take on the last portion of stage 3 on a lift since there's like four guys flying in to shoot at you at different elevations on your floor. So you can just go down a floor and have them all whiff.
