It was completely fine about a decade ago because nobody would care about it and was a relative small subgenre within the general community. The problem began surging when gachaslop like Genshit and later Star Rail made it to the mainstream since it went hard on the yuri pairing on most of the female characters and began amassing fanbases on specific yuriships in where their supporters would shove down everyone's throats about how cute and pure the relationship between X and Y is, how they are absolutely fucking when the MC is not looking and unironically hunt you down on twitter or other social media if you criticized the pairing (thanks to the game being of chink origin if I were to take a guess, you could compare the harassment to what Coco and Aqua received for the Taiwan incident). Of course there are many good animes and mangas with the Yuri aspect hinted or focused but their fanbases aren't as obnoxious and are very chill in comparison.
The yuri movement was naturally a thing before the vtubing bubble, but unfortunately it inherited the compulsive behavior of the former with the added side of the IRL factor. For instance, one of the reasons Noefure burnt down was because both fanbases would begin to stalk and track every single move Flare and Noel did on stream and social media to the point they dug into forbidden knowledge. It was suffocating for the two when it's obvious they both really liked each other and would collab on stream all the time and later go on dates and stuff.
