>>88426009So thanks for the watchalong Nerissa it was super rad. Im glad you love the movie and Im glad you like Darcy and Elizabeth and their romance. Its so good. I was watching the baseball game with the homies, but I wanted to watch your stream more so I watched it on my phone with earbuds on. I couldnt watch the film obviously so I was just listening to your commentary, and remembering the movie. Theres no way I could miss this stream so I just ended up looking like a weirdo. Baseball is slow and boring anyway, so I was actually fully focused on your voice, and the game was background noise. I have a bit of commentary regarding the film.
>other wifeYoure correct that when Elizabeth visits Darcy's estate the film implied that there was a misunderstanding of Darcy with another woman. However in the novel, Darcy just appears (Darcy jumpscare) and catches Elizabeth off guard and he joins them on their tour of his home.
>asking Father for marriageSo a lot of people think its courteous to ask the father for his daughters hand in marriage. It is, but its not necessary. As long as the man and woman agree to marry each other, the father has no say. Not according to Catholic customs at least. It just depends on what you want to do, and the relationship between the man and his woman and her father. I could go on about this point but it would take up the whole page. Fathers generally dont do dowry either anymore.
>1995 versionSo the 1995 version is really good too. I havent seen it but the general concensus is that the 1995 series and the 2005 film we just watched are the best ones.
>DarcyYou're correct again in that darcy in this film is a little mischaracterized. He is awkward in this film whereas in the novel he is haughty and thinks too highly of himself and has high standards. Similar to Lady Catherine. At least thats what Elizabeth thinks initially. Later when she tours his home, his servants talk about Darcy and reveal his true nature. Im going to nerd out for a sec.
>"I have never known a cross word from him in my life, and I have known him ever since he was four years old.">This was praise, of all others most extraordinary, most opposite to her ideas. That he was not a good-tempered man had been her firmest opinion>Yes, sir, I know I am. If I were to go through the world, I could not meet with a better. But I have always observed, that they who are good-natured when children, are good-natured when they grow up; and he was always the sweetest-tempered, most generous-hearted boy in the world."What a great endorsement.
>Elizabeth almost stared at her. "Can this be Mr. Darcy?" thought she.>"His father was an excellent man," said Mrs. Gardiner.>"Yes, ma'am, that he was indeed; and his son will be just like him—just as affable to the poor.">He is the best landlord, and the best master," said she, "that ever lived; not like the wild young men nowadays, who think of nothing but themselves. There is not one of his tenants or servants but will give him a good name. Some people call him proud; but I am sure I never saw anything of it. To my fancy, it is only because he does not rattle away like other young men.">In what an amiable light does this place him!" thought Elizabeth.Thats from chapter 43 or Volume 3 chapter 1 depending on how the version of the novel you own labels chapters.
>emmaYou quickly mentioned anna taylor joy starring in emma. A little bit of a coincidence but if you look at the lecoledesfemmes website, on the front page on the image over the "bodysuits" image is actually anna taylor joy modeling the "sailor bodysuit". Shes not on the actual page for the bodysuit, but only on the front page. I told you its low key niche trendy and popular.
>ballGoing to a ball would be sick. Id be down to dress up. Can I expose my chest like darcy? or should I leave that for the afterparty? Can I dress like antonio banderas as zorro in the dance scene? Or can I dress as him while in the black zorro costume?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxXIiWCusVsI want to wear that mask and hat and have my chest exposed. Do you know how to ride horses? I was riding horses before I could walk. True fact.
>Keira Knightley almost didn't get cast for Pride and PrejudiceI found this short video and I feel like you would like it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEE6Ip7xoNEAnyway thanks for the watchalong Nerissa, I really enjoyed it and I really loved your commentary. I look forward to watching the 1995 version, for the first time, with you in the near future.
