The main advantage of it is that the resolution doesn't have to match the source image. Say you make a selection around the eyes that's only a couple hundred pixels wide, you can do the inpainting pass at like 1280 px and it'll give you a lot of detail on that section. Adetailer does this, the only difference is that it automatically makes the selection.
