Not to mention GTA, the most popular single player game in the world, is known and was mostly played as a mass murder sim before it actually got a decent campaign.

The point of an FPS is to get kills. The point of being a soldier is to protect your country. You don't lose anything if you don't do the former, you lose everything if you don't do the latter.
