There is a huge faction of discontent middle class in western nations that don't act simply because they don't want to disturb what little peace they still have. Once that illusion is torn away, you'll have global uprising and civil wars break out in full force. In the end it all comes down to economics, and when you burn down the circus and poison the bread the simple average man isn't going to continue doing nothing forever.
