If you get a job and suddenly are making 40k a year you can still use the free government shit until they re-evaluate you next year. There is also the premium tax credits for up to 40k ,though those are definitely being defunded. There is really nothing blocking states from expanding healthcare to cover up to 40k, which would be the majority of the population.
