The big question is, if you took this 3 hour and 40 minute version of the Two Towers and released it in the cinemas, what would people have thought of it? Everyone would have criticized it for being too long. Yet on video, they think it's better.'
Go for the extended cut of LOTR. As for Mallrats, it absolutely has to be theatrical. Not even up for debate, it just makes the pacing worse. That's all. There's such a large difference because there's straight up 12 minutes of Kevin Smith and some other people talking near the start of the movie. Dev commentary tier, not worth it.
