Discord has now enforced mandatory End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) on all audio and video communications aside from those using the "stage" feature. This means that, theoretically, no one aside from the people you're in a call with will be able to listen to or view live audio or video footage, not even Discord themselves. This shouldn't change anything for the average user, except that if you're using a really old version of Discord you will be forced to update in order to use voice chat. They've also added a feature to allow you to verify private keys with other users in order to verify their identity. If you've ever been in the business of pirating or downloading niche programs/files from tech-oriented sources, this is the equivalent of verifying the MD5 hash of the file that you've downloaded. I would say that bothering with this verification code feature would be a waste of time for 99% of people, but for the chuubas who've had a history of being scammed by bad actors impersonating their friends on Discord or impersonating other chuubas and chuuba-adjacent people, it's probably worth it to set up persistent verification for the people you know.
