Except it was so poorly handled by the devs it that the playerbase plummeted into oblivion within a few month, even if the game is still receiving support. As you can see in picrel, IS is (for now) following a very similar trajectory that DNF had.
>Why do all fightans die?There are a lot of factors in the equations. For strarter the fact that the fgc are hype mongrels that hop from new release to new release without any loyalty to one game. Add to that the fact there is more fighting games than ever since the golden arcade era if your game doesn't have: a strong licence, insanely fun gameplay, perfect management by the devs, the game will not have much staying power. The best bet for IS is to try to gather a small community of 250ish people and try to work up from there.
