This is why you only see Roguelites take off and never Roguelikes.
Same with Metroidvanias - yeah sure Hollow Knight is a masterpiece, but there's no fun in literally playing the same game over and over again. People tend to have a too narrow view of things, I mean, the original Dark Souls was a metroidvania in everything but name and people didn't see this and rather try to construct a new genre around this.
