This might be Cover's Magic the Gathering moment. For those of you who don't know, the past few years, Magic the Gathering started doing crossover sets with other brand IPs. Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer 40k, Dr. Who, Lord of the Rings, Fallout, Asssasin's Creed, with Final Fantasy and Marvel's Spider Man set for next year. They've basically become the Fortnite of card games, while losing their identity in the process. Obviously all the longtime fans hated it.
But here's the thing: right now at least, Wizards of the Coast is doing better than ever. They've seen a huge jump in revenue. Maybe eventually the company burns out their buyers with all the releases but for right now, they are in the green. It's possible we'll see the same thing with Hololive, a temporary jump in revenue while all the original fans walk away, but then later a fall as the fans that replace them are fickle and won't stay for the long run. It's just a shame another hobby is ruined by greed.
