Vtubing in the west is primarily targeted towards weeaboos. I'm not Japanese so I can't speak for that side's culture but even at cons and stuff the vtuber audience is typically more gender segregated than the general anime audience.
Totally anecdotal but I tried introducing a girl I was seeing to Minto and she just got pissy over her "fake cutesy voice" and made me sad. Then I introduced her to some male ASMR vtubers in an effort to make her understand, and she got hooked, but still hated Minto. I think that's just how it is, western weebs don't like seeing their own sex because they want to self-insert as the viewer/subject.
