>>93497733I don't like the "just a number" approach, it's a psyop. The reality is that people can know each other to different extents and you don't have to be friends to enjoy being around someone. To me the idea is probably closer to how you sometimes see the same person in a game with random matchmaking and you sort of grow accustomed to them being a "character" that's around if that makes sense.
