Also most of them are centered around getting attention, be it from the opposite sex or the approval of their female peers, while male interests are a lot more object oriented, that's why women gather in packs and the communities for their hobbies are all so heavily policed. Most men would still like watching mecha anime even if no one else watched it, most females on the other hand would not get interest in anything that they don't see other enjoying first or that wouldn't get them attention in any way, just look at anime for example
