It's spiced up mahjong with super powers that do different things and stats that can give you an easier time with getting tiles you want. It's definitely a different kind of fun compared to normal mahjong.
As for poison, if a player is affected by it, then each turn it will subtract a small amount of points from that player's point total. If you're familiar with mahjong, you normally only lose points when your opponent wins a hand via self-draw or if you discard the last tile needed to complete that player's hand, and you lose the game when your points go below zero, and the goal is to deplete all your opponent's points.
During gameplay, you can see your points on the large diamond in the top-right corner of the screen while your opponent's is on the top left in red.
