>>35610101>can you really say that your thread has lots of scientific and technological talks that somehow should allow you 100 years of advancement over 99% of the other threads? The steam ship was following the logic that what if the Royal Navy wasn't as traditionalist and allowed testing of steam powered vessels early on, together with the inventor of a condenser engine getting state support in proliferating and promoting his new invention. Whole thing being pushed even further by an academia and government that promotes forward thinking. The things that need to build a steamship are kinda already there in the 1820s which is about where /who/ is vis-av-vis the real world. The gearbox for the screw I intended for it to be designed with outside help, and the screw is a rather primitive one, or even just a metallic flap. It's mostly there to differentiate between /inf/'s design and /who/'s, since I thought having very different design philosophies and thus different looking ships could be fun. And as I said, the project will end without producing further ships. Steam tech could also be somewhat slow to grow and not see any explosive growth due to factors like a relative lack of internal demand. But that's too far into the future(1130+) so I'll refrain from talking about it. Project is there to test things and prepare for the future. Which is both an extension of the thread's siege mentality and I guess relatively optimistic outlook for future possibilities.
