we had beavers in our yard and they turned our stream into a swamp, we destroyed their dam repeatedly but they rebuilt it
we tried putting a pipe under the dam but they figured out our scheme and plugged the pipe. apparently they seek out trickling noises. if you put an audio player underwater that plays a trickling noise they'll cover it up.
eventually we gave up and let them take over our yard, then one year they just disappeared
