So, State is ancient. It's a dead extension. It still works, but it will never support anything it doesn't already support.
I haven't tested it, but I'm fairly certain you can configure defaults by manually editing the ui-config.json file in the webui's main folder.
It's a bit fiddly, but if you search for a fairly unique word you should find the settings block for it.
