>>86756644it's pretty math and planning intensive even done simply, plus a lot of engineering and science goes into it to make it viable. growing a plant in your garden and harvesting whenever you feel like is easy, but vegetable gardening means waiting a specific number of days in specific weather to get a specific plant product (fruit/seed pod/root/tubers/shoots/stems/leaves) and you're limited by what they can survive since full sun is optimal but harsh summers will kill many plants and many need to overwinter, seeds need to stratify, etc. it's a big puzzle, especially if you want something growing at all times and need to schedule around that, and you can't follow a guide exactly since every area is different and there are thousands of species available to try that are poorly documented. take into account companion planting, crop rotation, opposing plants like onions/beans, and the tiered farms and stuff you need to do in hot regions, and shit gets really complicated really fast. and then there are soil and geometry considerations...
people go out of their way to emphasize easy methods, but if you're beholden to what people are willing to buy or what can be safely transported, you don't have that luxury anymore
