Their only interests in vtubers are to use them as jerk-off material and emotional validation (they treat real people like this as well, but only vtubers will give them the time of day), so the idea that a vtuber could be anything but an online prostitute doesn't make sense to them. Meanwhile the vast majority of people who watch vtubers do indeed simply tune in to watch a funny anime character play games and sing songs, but they don't chat or comment or involve themselves in discussion about vtubers at all.
