The voice tends to be what breaks the illusion, guys who try to sound "shota" just sound very fruity instead which the flamboyance can be off-putting for someone who wanted something more homely. Even then, as far as I understand, the knowledge that it's an older guy on the other side of the model tends to be enough to put off the Real Shotacons™. I think this is why a lot of people who start off as shotas tend to start leaning towards feminine habits, the idea that it's a femboy instead makes the "flaws" a lot easier to digest and more socially acceptable in the long run without having to tweak things too much.
If you want to work as a shota vtuber, you should either learn Japanese or get a gimmick that takes priority over the shota illusion. Stay away from +18 shit especially, people won't get on you for that as much as loli just because loli is more widespread but it's still pretty risky.
