(You) and Ayame fall in love around 1600s Japan, but being a human you obviously die way earlier than her. Right before you die, Ayame seeks out a sorcerer to cast a spell on your soul that will allow Ayame to track your reincarnation down when you are reborn, no matter where you are.
The story can start off with some regular fluff, then have some twists like you finding a wife before Ayame can travel across the country to reach you or Ayame encountering you while you're still a child. Maybe in one of your incarnations you refuse to fall in love with Ayame, forcing her to either give up and wait for your next incarnation or continue trying to convince you that she's your soulmate.
At one point in the story, around the mid 1800s when the west starts pressuring Japan, Ayame senses your next incarnation far, far away, on the other side of the sea. She journeys out with the black ships into unfamiliar lands, hoping to find her true love despite the language barrier that's been put up.
Could make a series, or a one shot that outlines the various scenarios Ayame encounters while trying to find each incarnation of you. Hell it doesn't even have to be Ayame, any immortal could bring their own flair to this prompt.
