I think the cuck being more attractive (as in ugly bastard bull) is a leftover of media, anime or otherwise, portraying the protagonist as generic but still attractive, then side characters whether allies or villains are generally awkwardly lanky, fat, or comically evil looking
The reader resembling the cuck by being uglier than the bull rather than just "misunderstood and sensitive" is a pill too bitter for the average consumer to consider
