I usually don't mind killing shitty non-general threads in the process. No reasons to feel bad since I usually anticipate creating new threads myself too (last one I did so was the transitional one of the Member stream this week).
I think the only exception should be that, if the thread is dying and hitting p.10 and a stream is scheduled, then a new thread has to be created. Just whoever did the thread still did a good job so don't beat yourself up too much about that.
Anyway, enough of the meta discussion - hoping everything will be alright for our owl.
